Riteish, Sanjay, Abhishek, Fardeen's Pan-Indian Epic 'Raja Shivaji' Release Date, Poster Out

In 2014, Riteish Deshmukh made his Marathi film debut with Lai Bhaari which became the biggest grosser of Marathi cinema at the time of its release.

In 2018, he returned to Marathi cinema with Mauli which failed at the box office. However, in 2022, Riteish Deshmukh decided to turn director with Marathi film Ved which became the second biggest grosser of Marathi cinema at the time of its release and is currently the third biggest grosser ever.

Now, in 2026, Riteish is directing and starring in his most ambitious film yet — Raja Shivaji.

Co-produced by Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji is a pan-Indian period epic where the actor/filmmaker will be seen playing the titular character of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Moreover, the film also features a massive star cast of renowned Hindi and Marathi actors including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte and Genelia Deshmukh.

Sharing the motion poster as well as the release date, Abhishek Bachchan posted on social media, “Privileged and honored to present a cinematic tribute to India’s legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj! #RajaShivaji 1 May 2026 Jio Studios & Mumbai Film Company come together to present this epic saga!”

The Hindi-Marathi bilingual will also release in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam i.e. a total of six Indian languages on May 1, 2026.

The music of the film is by Ajay-Atul and cinematography is by Santosh Sivan.
