Sitaare Zameen Par Looking At Rs 7-11 Cr Opening; Word-Of-Mouth May Affect The Trade Later

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is about to hit the theatres and we have the early estimates for the film’s opening collections.
According to various reports, Sitaare Zameen Par is looking at a collection ranging from Rs 7 crore to Rs 11 crore at the box office.
According to Pinkvilla, the film is being distributed in India by PVR Pictures, which is now planning a wide release across 3,250 screens. Initially, the makers had intended a modest platform release on around 1,000 to 1,500 screens. However, in a last-minute turn of events, the strategy shifted, paving the way for a significantly broader rollout nationwide.
As of Thursday 1 PM, Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, has sold approximately 20,000 tickets across the top three national chains: PVR Inox and Cinepolis, with PVR Inox contributing the lion’s share at 16,500 tickets.
The film is projected to close its advance booking with around 45,000 tickets sold across these chains. However, outside the major metro areas, advance sales remain modest. While there are a few block bookings, something that has become common for most theatrical releases over the past year, they currently hold little significance and are unlikely to impact the overall first-day box office verdict.
A trade analyst told Mid-Day, “It’s a tricky subject to handle. Also, it’s not for the masses. How Aamir has handled the subject [will determine] whether families come to theatres. An Aamir film should have opened bigger, but his last two films didn’t fare well at the box office. That’s a deterrent. If the film is appreciated, it can jump to R16-18 crore collections on day two, and take a jump of 40 per cent on Sunday.”
The source added, “Its first-day figures will be around Rs 11-12 crore. Laal Singh Chaddha too had opened at Rs 11 crore.”
