A popular film and TV actor, Dipshikkha Nagpal has been a part of several iconic films including Koyla (1997), Baadshah (1999), Partner (2007), Sirf Tum (1999), Dillagi (1999) and Jaanam Samjha Karo (1999).

In a recent interview, the actress recalled her breakout role in Koyla and perhaps the film she is most remembered for Baadshah and how she bagged it.

She opened up about meeting Shah Rukh Khan for the first time and how his comment towards her was quite rude.

She told Instant Bollywood how she was completely smitten by Shah Rukh Khan’s on-screen persona especially after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge but what happened on the first day of Koyla sets left her hurt as well as determined to prove herself.

She recalled, “When Shah Rukh came, he was smoking. So Rakesh ji came in and said, ‘Do you know Dipshikkha?’ He said, ‘She is a fantastic actress.’ Rakesh ji was very impressed with me. Shah Rukh said, ‘Yeah, let’s see.’ It hurt my ego. He was so rude. I was like, ‘This is Shah Rukh. I love him.’ Then I took it as a challenge.”

She then opened up about her first scene with SRK, “My first scene was that I am dying in his arms. So I was nervous wondering how it will happen."
The actress added that even though it was eventually removed from the final cut, “I remember the scene. I can still smell his aura.”

Two years after Koyla, Dipshikkha starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Baadshah. She then revealed, “Ratan Jain (producer) told me after Baadshah that Shah Rukh recommended my name. Shah Rukh never revealed it. That’s his greatness.”

She continued, “Later, we became friends but I would only pay attention to my work. I would work with dedication and maybe, he noticed that but he recommended me for Baadshah. I didn’t know that.”

She then thanked Shah Rukh Khan for the motivation and said, “I said, ‘Thank you, Shah Rukh that you said let’s see’ because had he not said it, then maybe I wouldn’t be in that film.”
