While some fans are going gaga over the visual effects, others are calling it an “unnecessary movie” as we already have two films in the animation franchise.

One user commented, “Visually majestic and emotionally profound, it transcends the boundaries of fantasy to deliver a story about courage, identity, and the transformative power of friendship. Every frame is crafted with breathtaking detail, and the dragons—especially Toothless—are rendered with such realism and soul that they feel alive. The performances are deeply human, grounding the mythic scale with vulnerability and heart. This reimagining doesn’t just pay homage—it elevates the original, inviting audiences into a richer, more immersive world. A soaring, unforgettable masterpiece.”

Another user commented, “I just saw theHowtoTrainYourDragonremake. It's nearly scene-for-scene identical to the original, so they didn't bastardize it like all of the Disney remakes do. But that just makes the remake pointless beyond the obvious cashing in on a recognizable IP. If you've seen the original, there's no reason to watch this new one.”

One user reacted, “Retains the heart and the magic of the original while expanding the mythology a bit more. The VFX is really good, especially on the dragons, toothless is perfect, and the cast does a really good job. The flying sequences are well done.”

Another user reacted, “A thrilling, family friendly adventure that soars! Mason Thames and Nico Parker shine as Hiccup and Astrid, with amazing CGI dragons, especially Toothless, stealing the show. Packed with great effects and action, Dean DeBlois delivers a nostalgic yet fresh epic with heart, humor, and nothing woke. Perfect for all ages! 9/10.”
