All Those Death-Defying Stunts Have Finally Led Tom Cruise To A Much-Deserved Oscar

Tom Cruise made his debut in a bit role in the 1981 film Endless Love at the age of 19 and went on to star in films like Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders (1983) and his big breakthrough Risky Business (1983).
Over the years, he starred in some of the most loved and iconic Hollywood blockbusters including The Color of Money (1986), Top Gun (1986), Cocktail (1988) and Rain Man (1988) among others.
In 1990, Tom got his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his performance in Born on the Fourth of July (1989), he followed it up with another Best Actor nomination for his performance in Jerry Maguire (1996).
In 2000, he got an academy award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Magnolia (1999) and in 2023, Top Gun: Maverick got him a Best Picture Oscar nomination as a producer.
Despite being nominated four times, Tom Cruise failed to secure a single win and recently when the Academy announced the addition of a new category honoring stunt performers, fans were unhappy because Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning released in 2025 and the category will be introduced from 2028.
In pop culture, Tom Cruise is often touted as Mr Movies and the man who saved movies during covid, hence, it’ll be an honour for The Academy to be given to Tom Cruise, at least that’s what the general consensus is on social media.
Well, good news for the fans is that The Academy has now announced that Tom Cruise is finally being given an honorary Oscar.
Along with Tom Cruise, the other recipients of the award will be Debbie Allen, Wynn Thomas and Dolly Parton (Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award).
Making the announcement, the official X page of The Academy wrote, “Presenting the 16th annual Governors Awards honorees:
